Email Received From customer i was just reading your blog and wanted to tell you about our dinner at your restaurant last night. we ventured out on a nasty and rainy evening from white lake, where we have a vacation house. we haven't lived here that long, but have been looking for the opportunity to try your place since we have heard some great buzz about it. in addition, although we have spent much time in the catskills , usually in the summer, for a large part of our lives, we had yet to find a restaurant to get excited about. we had a wonderful evening despite the weather!!!. we are both foodies, eat often in the city and are not particularly impressed with most of the restaurants in westchester, where we live most of the time. we both thought the food was outstanding, and as i have already told you, we are pretty picky!! the atmosphere was great, service was friendly and i think it was the best roast chicken i have ever eaten and my husband was crazy about his squash soup! we totally understand how hard it is to keep a business going, especially in the winter, but want you to know that you have created a really special place that we are looking forward to returning to!! keep up the good work!! caryn and bill freilich

Although last year's blizzard iced Valentine's Day romance in the Hudson Valley, local chefs are heating up their menus this week with chili and chocolate to entice diners in from the cold.
"Everybody looks forward to Valentine's Day," said Chef Franz Brendle of Nina Restaurant in Middletown. "You're in the business to make people happy and that's what we try to do."
In the Hudson Valley, almost every restaurant has a special to offer those looking for romance. Restaurants are creating amorous prix fixe (fixed price) menus with aphrodisiacs and elegant ingredients, bakeries and chocolate shops are hand-crafting unique chocolate delights, and hotels are offering overnight stays that are surely a recipe for love.
With this dizzying array of options, we asked five chefs to offer their own menus as well as recommendations for the best Valentine's Day choices.

Valentine's Day special:
Four-course prix fixe menu, $55
After celebrating his three-year anniversary with a rush of diners sampling signature foods, Restaurant 15 Main chef Peter Schott turned right around to craft a new tasting menu for Valentine's Day diners. His cozy locale is a come-as-you-are type of establishment, which may suit those who are too busy to dress up on Thursday but still want to treat themselves to good food. But the modern American cooking offers a sophistication not often seen in the area, with the romantic special menu being no exception. The courses offer selections including a mushroom fricassee with a fried farm egg, poached lobster with cauliflower purée and smoked paprika butter and a loin of veal with spaetzle and gingersnap gravy.
